Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down Well, I woke up Sunday morning With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled in my closet through my clothes And found my cleanest dirty shirt. Then I washed my face and combed my hair And stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my mind the night before With cigarettes and songs I'd been picking. But I lit my first and watched a small kid Playing with a can that he was kicking. Then I walked across the street And caught the Sunday smell of someone's frying chicken. And Lord, it took me back to something that I'd lost Somewhere, somehow along the way. Au p'tit déj, j'ai pris une p'tite bière, c'était bon, J'en ai repris une au dessert. J'ai choisi une chemise mettable, j'l'ai trouvée en vidant l'tiroir par terre. Rafraîchi et vagu'ment coiffé, j'suis sorti entamer ce nouveau jour. Mon esprit s'était envolé en clopes et en chansons pendant la nuit. Fumant ma première cigarette, j'voyais c'gosse jouer en faisant du bruit. En allant un peu plus loin, j'ai senti l'odeur dominicale d'poulet rôti. Mon Dieu, ça m'a rapp'lé des choses que j'ai perdues y'a longtemps, j'sais pas comment. En ce dimanche matin, mon Dieu, mon seul souhait est bien d'être ailleurs. Parce qu'les dimanches ont quelque chose qui fait qu'on se sent vraiment seul. A part la mort, rien n'est aussi déprimant qu'un trottoir muet, une ville sans bruit ou bien... la descente du dimanche matin. Au square un papa poussait sa jolie petite fille qui s'éclatait. Je me suis arrêté à l'église et j'ai écouté ce qu'ils entonnaient. J'ai continué dans la rue, j'ai entendu au loin une cloche perdue qui sonnait, elle résonnait dans la vallée comme un d'ces vieux rêves d'antan qui disparaît. |
