Source text - English Since the first description of the Helicobacter genus, the human-specific pathogen Helicobacter pylori, a highly adapted and long co-evolved gastric bacterium, multiple disciplinary fields have been opened for researchers around the world. Most of the Helicobacter species encompassed within this genus diversified significantly during evolution to be classified in different taxa, and not only as inhabitants of the human stomach mucosa but also from lower intestines and hepatobiliary pathways including non human primates, domestic and wild animals. Currently these bacteria are classified in gastric Helicobacter species (GHS) and enterohepatic Helicobacter species (EHS), in accordance to the particular colonizing niche and the evolutionary process resulting from longtime selection.
Translation - Spanish Desde la primera descripción del género Helicobacter, se han abierto campos multidisciplinarios a investigadores de todo el mundo para el estudio del patógeno humano, Helicobacter pylori; bacteria con alta capacidad de adaptación y co-evolución presente en la mucosa gástrica. La mayoría de las especies dentro del género Helicobacter han logrado diversificarse considerablemente durante el proceso evolutivo permitiendo clasificarlas en diferentes taxones; no sólo como huéspedes de la mucosa gástrica humana sino de la parte inferior del intestino y vías hepatobiliares de primates no humanos, animales domésticos y silvestres. En la actualidad, la bacteria es clasificada como Helicobacter gástricos (GHS, por sus siglas en inglés) y Helicobacter enterohepático (EHS, por sus siglas en inglés); dicha clasificación se basa en nichos de colonización y años de procesos evolutivos.
