Eugene Koo, the translator who helped Seung Hwan Oh adjust and communicate during his two seasons with the Cardinals, was hired last winter to be Williams’ translator as he took the helm of the KBO’s most-decorated franchise, the Kia Tigers. He was there with Williams during the extended and unusual 67-day spring training caused by the coronavirus pandemic and countrywide quarantine, and he was there Thursday as Williams became the third U.S.-born manager to win a game in the KBO.
