The Muslim world celebrated the Hegira New Year on Tuesday. For people living in the Tunisian town of Nabeul, it’s the perfect occasion to celebrate by confecting sugar dolls of all kinds of different colors. But the sweet tradition is no longer to everyone’s taste.
In Tunisia, religious festivals are often celebrated with specific culinary traditions. In Nabeul, a town based around 80 kilometers south-east of the capital Tunis, every New Year the market stalls are overflowing with figurines made from sugar and decorated in bright, vivid colors. Miniature horses and knights are offered to the boys, while the girls are given dolls. But this year, the festivals have been overshadowed by the growing clamor of religious hardliners. Certain imams have advocated the eradication of this tradition, which they consider to be contrary to the principles of Islam

إحتفل المسلمون فى جميع أنحاء العالم بالعام الهجرى الجديد يوم الثلاثاء. ويمثل هذا اليوم مناسبة خاصة للذين يعيشون فى المدينة التونيسية نابل، حيث يقوموا بصناعة عرائس الحلوى بكل ألوانها. ولكن لم تعد هذه العادات تناسب كل الأشخاص.
وتكون الإحتفالات الدينية غالبًا فى تونس بأطباق معينة. وفى نابل التى تقع على بعد 80 كيلومترًا جنوب شرق العاصمة التونيسية، تمتلئ الأسواق كل عام جديد بالتماثيل المصنوعة من الحلوى والمزخرفة بألوان حية وساطعة. وتكون الفرسان الصغيرة للأولاد، بينما تكون العرائس للبنات. ولكن فى هذا العام، تم التعتيم على هذا الإحتفال نظرًا للضجة المتنامية للتعصب الدينى. حيث دعا الأئمة المعينون إلى نبذ هذه العادات، التى تُعتبر مخالفة لتعاليم الإسلام.

Women played an important part in the Arab Spring uprisings but some are now asking whether the current situation is more like an ‘Arab Autumn’ for women’s rights. Certainly, the prospects for achieving full and equal women’s political participation now seem more distant than ever.
This was not how things seemed when events started to unfold in late 2010. Women stood beside men to demand change in Tunisia and Tahrir Square, Egypt. They provided support to the insurgency that overthrew Colonel Gadaffi’s regime in Libya.
Deep change across the region seemed inevitable as people rose to demand political and economic rights. Many expected that this would lead to greater democracy, including further advances in women’s political participation.
But this is not how the picture looks three years on. The Middle East and North Africa region remains firmly rooted at the bottom of the World Economic Forum’s latest Global Gender Gap Report in women’s political participation and empowerment indices.
Throughout the region, women hold less than 13 per cent of parliamentary seats. Women ministers are still rare and usually allocated junior portfolios rather than more powerful ones.

لعبت المرأة دورًا مهمًا في ثورات الربيع العربي، ولكن البعض يتساءلون ما إذا كان الوضع الحالي يشبه "الخريف العربي" عند الحديث عن حقوق المرأة. ومن المؤكد أن إمكانية تحقيق المشاركة السياسية الكاملة والمتكافئة للمرأة تبدو الآن أمرًا بعيد المنال من أي وقت مضى.
لم تبدو الأمور بهذه الطريقة عندما بدأ اندلاع الأحداث في أواخر عام 2010. حين وقفت المرأة مع الرجل جنبًا إلى جنب للمطالبة بالتغيير في تونس، وميدان التحرير في مصر. فضلاً عن دعمها للحركة الثورية التي أطاحت بنظام العقيد القذافي في ليبيا.
ومن ثمّ أصبح التغيير الجذري في المنطقة أمرًا لا مفر منه حيث نهضت الشعوب للمطالبة بحقوقها السياسية والاقتصادية. وتوقع الكثيرون أن هذه الثورات من شأنها أن تحقق المزيد من الديمقراطية، بما في ذلك تحقيق مزيد من التطور في عملية المشاركة السياسية للمرأة.
لكن الصورة لم تبدو هكذا بعد مرور ثلاثة أعوام. وظلت منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال أفريقيا تقبع بصورةٍ ثابتة في أدنى التقرير الأخير الخاص بالفجوة العالمية بين الجنسين الذي قدمه المنتدى الاقتصادي العالمي فيما يتعلق بمؤشرات التمكين السياسي للمرأة ومشاركتها في الحياة السياسية.
وعلاوة على ذلك، لم تحصد المرأة على أكثر من 13 في المائة من المقاعد البرلمانية في جميع أنحاء المنطقة. ولا تزال فكرة تولي المرأة منصب وزيرة مثلاً أمرًا نادرًا وعادة ما تُعين لتولي مناصب في الوزارات الناشئة بدلاً من الوزارات الفعّالة.

Since September 2012, Volvo Trucks has launched five new truck models. It all began last year with the spectacular launch of the new Volvo FH, followed this year by the introduction of the new Volvo FM, Volvo FMX, Volvo FE and Volvo FL. All the new models include innovations and features that make the driver’s job easier and more efficient.
“This has been one of the most intensive and exciting periods in our history. With the most modern and high-tech Volvo line-up ever, we now have an outstanding ability to help customers in all segments to improve their productivity and profitability,” says Claes Nilsson, President of Volvo Trucks.
The visual Volvo family ties are now stronger than ever between the most powerful truck, the Volvo FH16, and its smaller siblings. Volvo’s classic iron mark has been moved up to a new position below the windscreen on all models. The new headlamps with their distinctive daytime running lights also emphasise the uniform look.
Improved working environment for drivers
All the new Volvo trucks offer a wide range of benefits for the drivers. All cab environments have been renewed or upgraded with the focus on creating an effective, ergonomic, comfortable and safe workplace.
