MADAME: I have read your eyes, and my heart is full of joy. I have also read the black looks on the faces of your jealous and powerful relatives. If I have seemed cold and indifferent, it is because I cared for your peace of mind--not because I feared for myself, believe me, Madame.
And now the cruel edict has gone forth. Exile from Monaco is nothing, for the world is wide. Exile from you is death; for my poor life is in your adorable smile.
If you are as bold as you are beautiful; if wide difference of rank weighs less in the balance than an absorbing passion; if you can dare everything for the sake of one who has suffered and been silent, be at the pump behind the equestrian statue of your noble ancestor, Vincenzio Grimaldi, one hour before sunrise tomorrow morning, and be alone.
Translation - Arabic لم يَحمِل الخطاب أي عُنوانٍ أو توقيع:
«سَيِّدَتِي، قَرأتُ ما بَاحَت به عَينَاكِ، فَفَرحَ قلبِي وتَراقَصَ على ذِكراكِ. قرأتُ أيضًا ما على وجوه أقَاربَكِ من نَظَراتِ الحِقدِ والشَّحنَاءِ والغِيرة السَّوداءِ، وهُم أنَاسٌ ذَوو سُلطةٍ وسُلطَان؛ فاعذريني إن بَدَا فؤادي قاسيًا، وشَابَ الفُتُورُ ما تَلَفَّظَ به اللسان. وَلا تَحسَبِين أنِّي بذلكَ خِفتُهُم أو خَشِيتُ سوء المآل، بَل أقسُمُ سَيِّدَتِي؛ ما كُنتُ أبتَغِي لكِ إلا راحةَ البَال والبُعدَ عن القِيل والقَال.
أمَا وقد دَارَت دَولةُ الأيام، وجَارَ علينا ذلك المَرسُومُ الفَظُّ كالمُوتِ الزُّؤام. فَلتَعلَمِي إذن أنِّي لا أهتَمُّ إن أُبعِدتُ عن مُونَاكُو؛ فأرض الله واسعةٌ والعَالمُ فسيح. ولكن أن أُبعَدَ عنكِ فهو عين هَلاكِي؛ فبَينَ ثَغرِك البَاسِم تُرفرِفُ رُوحِي البَائِسة التي تَهوَاكِ!
فإن كانت جَسَارتُك بمِثلِ حسنك وجَمَالك، وكان البَونُ الشَّاسِعُ بين طَبَقتَينَا لا يشغل بَالك، وأمام العَاطِفة الجَيَّاشِة ضئيلٌ مُتَهَالِك؛ إن كُنتِ ستَقِفين أمام كل شيءٍ لأجل رجلٍ تألَّم، وقَاسَى في صمتٍ دون أن يتكَلَّم، فقابِلِيني غدًا صباحًا قبل أن تُشرقَ الشَّمسُ بساعة عند محطَّة ضَخِّ الوقود خلف تمثال جَدَّكِ النَّبيلِ الفارس؛ فِينتِشنزو جِرمَلدِي، وكوني وحيدة.»
