Source text - English Responsibility Is Not a 4-letter Word
“People think responsibility is hard to bear. It's not. I think that sometimes it is the absence of responsibility that is harder to bear.”

One key to being happy is contained in this utilitarian description of happiness: People are happy when they are "in control," that is, when they feel competent to satisfy their needs and reach their goals. There can be no happiness without personal control. And this is why Humanists place such a strong emphasis on personal responsibility.
People often treat responsibility as if it is a bad word, something we should avoid if we want to be happy. Just the opposite is true. Freedom, and therefore happiness, can only be achieved through responsibility. When you accept responsibility for your life, you gain control over it in a way that is unparalleled. No longer a victim of fate, you can do something to improve your life and the lives of those around you.

Una delle chiavi per essere felici è contenuta nelle descrizione utilitarista della felicità: Le persone sono felici quando hanno “il controllo” delle cose, cioè quando si sentono capaci di soddisfare loro stessi i propri bisogni e raggiungere i propri scopi. Non ci può essere felicità senza il controllo personale. Ed è per quello che gli Umanisti mettono un accento così marcato sulla responsabilità personale.
La gente alle volte considera "responsabilità" una parola cattiva, una cosa da evitare se si vuole essere felici. Ma la verità è l'esatto contrario. La libertà, e quindi la felicità, possono solo essere acquisite tramite la responsabilità. Quando accetti la responsabilità sulla tua vita, vi prendi il controllo in una maniera ineguagliabile. Non più una vittima del destino, puoi fare qualcosa per migliorare la tua vita e le vite di quelli che ti circondano.

Source text - English I'd done this duty before and knew it well,
so I thought I'd be the best fit.
But then I thought about how I'd only had my operation 20 or so days ago.
The incision hadn't fully healed and the weather was getting hot.
At home, I had to wash the incision several times a day.
If I took on this duty
and I got too busy to keep my wound clean,
it could become inflamed.
My use of my arm was still limited,
and if I was jostled around on an electric scooter every day, the incision wouldn't heal,
then I'd really get sick.
Given the situation,
taking on that duty wouldn't do my health any favors.
But then I thought,
"The right person for this duty hasn't been found yet.
If I don't take it on, won't the work of God's house be set back?
What should I do?"
Translation - Romanian Mai făcusem această datorie și-o cunoșteam bine;
m-am gândit c-aș fi cea mai potrivită.
Dar apoi m-am gândit că mă operasem doar în urmă cu circa 20 de zile.
Tăietura nu se vindecase complet și vremea se tot încălzea.
Acasă, era necesar să spăl rana de mai multe ori pe zi.
Dacă preluam această datorie
și eram prea ocupată ca să-mi țin rana curată,
putea să se inflameze.
Încă nu-mi puteam folosi bine brațul
și, dacă m-aș zdruncina zi de zi pe un scuter electric, incizia nu s-ar vindeca,
atunci chiar m-aș îmbolnăvi.
Dată fiind situația,
asumarea acestei datorii nu mi-ar face bine la sănătate.
Dar apoi m-am gândit,
„Persoana potrivită pentru această datorie n-a fost găsită.
Dacă n-o preiau eu, n-ar împiedica asta lucrarea casei lui Dumnezeu?
Ce-ar trebui să fac?"
