Para ilustrar el tema he elegido un proyecto que fue realizado por la marca de café, Kenco, que se llevó a cabo en el año 2013 en Honduras. Se encuentra en la página Web del periódico Telegraph, titulado como Coffee Vs Gangs. Se basó en ayudar a los jóvenes que vivían en San Pedro Sula, el cual es un barrio peligroso con una alta presencia de narcotraficantes, a realizar habilidades importantes para su futuro y a no sucumbir al camino de vida violenta. Es relevante porque muestra cómo la gente se une para transformarse y hacer un cambio positivo en la sociedad.
El texto comienza resumiendo el predominio de narcotraficantes en Honduras con historias de gente que se haya sucumbida a aquella vida violenta. Muestra las estadísticas de asesinatos en varios países de América Latina, con Honduras en primer lugar. Luego explica las habilidades que aprendieron los participantes, específicamente el cultivo de café, matemáticas e idiomas.
Al final del texto, hay una citación de uno de los participantes, la cual dice, “Vi esto como una oportunidad para cambiar mi vida. La vida que vivía antes me llevaba al infierno”. El proyecto logró ayudar a 20 jóvenes vulnerables a cambiar sus vidas.

Introduction and summary
To illustrate the subject, I have chosen a project that was created by the coffee brand, Kenco, that was carried out in 2013 in Honduras. It is found on the web page of the Telegraph newspaper, titled as Coffee Vs Gangs. The project was based on helping young people who lived in San Pedro Sula, which is a dangerous neighbourhood with a high presence of drug traffickers, to learn important skills for their future and to not succumb to the violent way of life. It is relevant because it shows how people unite to make a positive change in society. The text starts out by summarising the high predominance of drug dealers in Honduras, with stories of people who had given in to that violent way of life. It shows the statistics of murders in various countries in Latin America, with Honduras in first place. It then explains the skills that the participants learned, specifically the cultivation of coffee, mathematics and languages.
At the end of the text, there is a quote from one of the participants, which says, ''I saw this as an opportunity to change my life. The life that I lived before was taking me to hell''. The project managed to help 20 vulnerable young people to change their lives. |
