Is Paypal changing currency on incoming payments? ناشر الموضوع: patyjs

I live in Mexico and have just received a payment into Paypal from a regular customer whom I invoice in USD. Their payments have always been sent in USD which is my main currency on PP. This new payment came in in Mexican pesos. The client says they sent USD. Repercussions after the US election? I can't find any information about a change of policy and wonder if anyone else has had this happen. Thanks. I've had the same problem. Payment was in USD, but was changed to Euros. So I sent PP a message, and was told that they automatically change your account according to your country of residence. Yes, without bothering to ask if you'd agree. There is a way to change your primary account to USD, but you would have to contact them on how to do this. I was sent a UK link to change my primary account, but don't know if this works in Mexico as well. I had the same issue. The funny thing is that it only happens to payments made in USD. Though yesterday one payment came and it did not switch to BrReal as the one from last week. I received payments in Euro and it did not switch. I have reported that to PayPal but replies. Was this recently, Thayenga? | Nov 15, 2016 |
It's the first time it has happened in I don't know how many years... that's why I wondered if had to do with the US elections and resulting instability.

Unlikely that suddenly your banking/money transfers would be affected by that. Noticed that as well | Nov 15, 2016 |
Incoming USD payment changed to HKD - but curiously enough, another USD payment on the same day wasn't converted, nor was a JPY payment also on the same day. From a practical perspective I'm actually ok with this, since I deposit in HKD to my local bank account anyway. It does cast another shadow on Paypal's already pitch-black business practices, though.

No, this happened some time last month, that is, prior to the presidential elections. PP's justification was that the primary (or only) account is always in the currency of one's country of residence. I guess that's PP's policy (now). Paypal's explanation- | Nov 16, 2016 |
I wrote to Paypal to ask for an explanation and got this reply: Patricia, you are correct that your previous payments are actually designated in US currency. I reviewed this payment, It has nothing to do with your PayPal account but on how the sender sent the payment. To give you an update, US accounts have three options to send the money (Pay for goods or services, Send to friends and family in the US and Send to friends and family in other countries.) It seems that your customer/buyer send the payment as "friends and family in other countries" which will automatically send and default to the local currency of the recipient. I hope this information is helpful. It cleared things up for me. ▲ Collapse

New currency selection dropdown | Nov 16, 2016 |
I had a scenario recently where I charged in SEK, but got paid in USD. My accountant wasn't very happy... Not sure if that's because my default currency is set to USD, but I'm in South Africa, so my account would have been set to ZAR if it's supposed it's supposed to use my default currency. The client told me that there was a new dropdown button, which he hadn't noticed, where he had to select the currency of choice. "I checked now, paypal have added an input box that ... I just had this issue too. A company in Spain always pays me in Euros and then I convert it to USD. They paid me and it arrived in USD so I wrote them a message saying that at the exchange rate this was not correct. So they said that they paid me in USD. I refunded them the money and they tried again and the second time it did arrive in EUR. | | | Paulinho Fonseca البرازيل Local time: 08:36 عضو (2011) أنجليزي إلى برتغالي + ... I have had the same issue several times recently. The problem is that I invoice European clients in EUR, so when payment arrives in CAD I cannot be sure that they paid the full amount. Also, I need to record the PayPal fee as a business expense, but it doesn't show up. It used to be that the amount sent, in EUR, would be shown followed by the PayPal fee.

I wrote to my client with the explanation given to me by Paypal, posted above. Last week I received another payment from them that hadn't been changed, so I think that did the trick. Maybe you could do the same, John. | | | Tom in London المملكة المتحدة Local time: 12:36 عضو (2008) إيطالي إلى أنجليزي
