My idea of a day's work is anything that comes my way for the day and does not resemble a 9 to 5 job. More often than not, it means working 3 to 5 hours and at times a marathon session…

I have personally defined turnover values from which I consider a day to be successful, so whenever I reach those (without anything urgent forcing me to keep working), I'll call it a day. This will usually be after about 5-6 hours of work, but can be shorter or longer depending on the jobs I work on.

Usually, that's how much I work, but sometimes when I have bigger projects to work on, I have to work 9-10 hours.

Whenever I can, but currently not before mid-June.
Work is outdated and overrated.
Fulfilment and blooming are à la mode.

5-6 Hours A Day, Around 35 Hours A Week, Over 6 Days, Over A Period Of Multiple Weeks Jun 2, 2022

Literary translation can be quite draining, both mentally and physically! But at least for now, I am putting my and my mother's needs over those of any client.

10 hours. Jun 2, 2022

Translation hours, that is (meaning time spent on translation or edting and translation or editing only), what on average means that I start my working day at 7:00 a.m. and finish it by 10:30 p.m., with a 1-hour lunch break and a long 2.5 hour cooking and dinner break. On Friday I call it a day at 4:30 p.m. (7 translation hours) until Monday.

Wishes vs. Reality Jun 3, 2022

I am studying on the side (writing my PhD thesis) and therefore I would say that ideally I wish I were able to dedicate 3 hours per day to translation and then 5 hours to my thesis. But these "fast turnaround" assignments (is it me or did more and more agencies are trying to get more done in less time recently) drain me a little bit, and therefore a day's work for me can resemble anything from 8 to 15 hours. Last Monday, without even touching my thesis, I had to complete a "Can you do this by tomorrow, pleeeeease?"-kind assignment, and therefore I didn't leave my chair even to go workout.Collapse

24? Jun 3, 2022

Counting e-mails? Sound like 24 then.... JJJJ

Anyway, my idea of a day's work in three steps:
1_Hammock (+ weather, if not available then a sofa as plan B)
2_Music
3_Cuppa

With that, I can tackle anything

My working hours aren't constrained to a particular time frame. It all depends on the work volumes and deadlines.

It varies Jun 5, 2022

During the last month, I have been working on 3 projects at the same time. They were my clients fir more than a year now. So, I couldn't reject their jobs. Besides, I have got my regular job. I had to work like 16 hours a day except for Saturdays or Sundays because I had to take my little family for a dinner out or something.
I never imagined i could do 16 hours of work per day, yet I did it.

approx. 8 hours of actual work Jun 6, 2022

In the summer, a typical day looks like this:

6–7 work
7–9 inline skating
9–11 work
11–12 food / nap
12–15 work
15–18 walk / misc. / shop / food / nap
18–20 work

I can (and often do) keep this schedule for weeks without a day off.

I'm sorry Jun 6, 2022

When I read this question for the first time I didn't realise it was related to hours.
And I keep reading it and it still doesn't make any sense to me. I'm sorry.
Anyway, I fully agree with Novian.

Nice schedule, Jan Truper! Jun 6, 2022

I particularly like your "7–9 inline skating" entry! (which I know as "rollerblading")
