I am not actively looking for new clients, but if a new client is offering regular work under better terms, I am of course willing to "let go" (meaning "being less responsive to") clients that offer less favourable conditions.

My current client base provides me with all the work I need, so I'm not seeking. But if a new agency crosses my path I will apply a rate that's higher compared to most of my existing clients.

Yes, but how to make contact with them? That's the problem.

I haven’t been seeking new clients for a while as I’m quite happy with those I have: interesting projects paid at my rates and on my conditions, but when a client finds me he/she will be more than welcome if we can agree on terms…

One Should Be Always Be On The Lookout For Those Jun 16, 2022

In the event that your current set of regular clients that you like to work for suddenly disappears almost completely, or even completely off the radar. I had a big shock several years ago when a manager who worked for a UK agency, and who sent me work everyday, for which I was paid a good rate in spite of the large volumes, wrote and told me his agency was going to have to close down, because several of its end clients had been defaulting on their payments for the translations they had requeste... In the event that your current set of regular clients that you like to work for suddenly disappears almost completely, or even completely off the radar. I had a big shock several years ago when a manager who worked for a UK agency, and who sent me work everyday, for which I was paid a good rate in spite of the large volumes, wrote and told me his agency was going to have to close down, because several of its end clients had been defaulting on their payments for the translations they had requested and received. I really hated finding that out, not only because I enjoyed the work and was getting paid a consistent flow of money, and on time at that, from the agency, but because the manager seemed to be a really nice guy. That may be the exact reason why some of the end "clients" left him and the agency with an empty bag in the end. So even though this was a client who seemed "better" to me in many ways, including because of the manager's positive and appreciative comments about my work, in the end, it wasn't so, since the bottom line was to continue to have work and payments for the same coming into my inbox from that agency. Luckily, it was all paid up with me when I got the bad news. You never know what's going on behind the scenes with these agencies. So I think one should always be on the lookout for new and better clients. Nothing lasts forever anymore, anyway, esp. in this day and age.

I'm very happy with the vast majority of my clients. There's one I've decided I will no longer be available for unless she sends me something really interesting, a couple of others who pay less than my usual rate, who I'll be less available to as well, but only because of the rate, apart from that they are lovely people, efficient and pleasant to deal with.
The rest of my clients are a pretty wonderful bunch, sending me interesting work without too much pressure and paying promptly, so I'
