If you are talking about somebody meant for somebody else, in the sense of destined, intended etc., the appropiate Hebrew term is "meyuad"

: Sorry Yoni, I have to disagree. Yedidey nefesh in Hebrew does not mean "two people who are meant for each other", but rather very close friends, with not romance involved :-( .

I always warn against relying too much on dictionaries, but FWIW, the Kernerman Oxford agrees with me. Yedid nefesh can mean quite a few things, from bosom friend to soul mate, I believe.

: On this one I agree with Yoni.There is the poem sung on Erev Shabbat in the synagogue that is called by this very name. The terminology of the poem does use love and attraction to one another. John Dunn in his religious poetry used similar imagery.

: Soulmates means "lovers." Yedidei nefesh is not quite lovers, and it is too reminiscent of the Shabbat song (sung at the table, not in synagogue) which deals with the love of man for God. I suggest "ohavim be-nefesh."

No!! Soulmates are NOT lovers - that's the point: they are spiritually attuned/connected. Thus, ohavim/lovers is incorrect (though they may be lovers IN ADDITION).
