English term

reserved bidder

English to German Bus/Financial Business/Commerce (general) Lotto-Lizenzen
Hallo,

"XXX was declared the reserved bidder for the third license for the lottery"

Unterlegener Bieter/Bewerber/Kandidat (würde ja den Sinn ausdrücken)?

Danke für Eure Hilfe!

"The highest bidder shall be automatically declared the winner, along with the second highest bidder as the reserved bidder, with the bid bond being retained ... " (from Nigeria)

Sorry for any misunderstandings - I forgot you didn't know the bidders were British and Indian - and the British bidder won the licence. The text was issued by a British PR agency, but sure, we don't know who originated it.
David Moore (X) Aug 7, 2007:
Mind you, the bidder's site itself uses the "d" (it's an Indian site), but we don't know for sure who originated it, do we - nor are we ever likely to know...

Hello again: I'd like a single € for every German mistake I've seen since I started translating... I'm afraid we Brits aren't infallible either!
Michaela Müller (asker) Aug 7, 2007:
Haha ... but it was a British PR agency that published it like that ... maybe that's why they (as being Non-British) aren't the preferred bidder. I found it on the National Lottery Commission's website as "Reserve Bidder" - thanks for confirming this!
David Moore (X) Aug 7, 2007:
Hello Michaela: you certainly CAN translate it as you suggest; the "d" is definitely WRONG on the end of "reserve" - perhaps that's why they were only "reserve"....
