Discussion

Beatrix D Mar 3, 2009:
restructuring of high school at senior level II I'm just working on a tranlation for the same kind of certificate. So far I've seen two different ways of translating this phrase:

* Restructuring of high school at senior level II
* Restructuring of senior high school level II

I find it hard to translate as there is no equivilant in the British or US school systems.

German term (edited): Neugestaltung der gymnasiale Oberstufe in der Sekundarstufe II
Selected

reshaping the A-Levels/High School seniors' educational structure

For BE A-Levels, for US H.S.. It probably refers to the recent concentration in Germany of 9 years' schooling to 8 without eliminating ballast.
Note from asker:
Sylvie, I did not close the question yet. Also, I'll appreciate if you tell me what really is the coorect translation for this.
Peer comment(s):

disagree sylvie malich (X) : Ouch! The gymnasiale Oberstufe has nothing to do with A-levels/High School. They are completely different systems. And what do you mean by "without eliminating ballast"?

@ Ms. Malich: I know the system are different; however both can be defined as the last 2/3 yrs. of general education prior to university/college/Uni/FH. Ballast: content have not been streamlined to match reduction to 8 yrs. Regards.
neutral Friderike Butler : The concentration takes place in the subjects taught in 11th and 12th grade => The 13th year is eliminated.

restructuring of the senior years of secondary school in Germany

Klasse umgelegt.

Note from asker:
And now I know about the system of awarding / not awarding kudoZ points!
Peer comment(s):

agree sylvie malich (X) : I think the asker would be better served taking your explanation into his/her translation. I would still mention "Gymnasium" and qualification phase. Secondary school pales in comparison.

agree - quite a mouthful and still difficult to convey the full concept
