I am translating an elementary school lesson on Native American weaving techniques (English to Spanish). Here is the entire context:
"In this lesson students learn about the history of weaving and the difference between a TABBY WEAVING and tapestry weaving. People have been making tapestries for thousands of years. The oldest known tapestries were made in ancient Egypt during the time of the pharaohs over 3000 years ago. Very old tapestries have been found in South America, in southwestern United States, the Middle East, India, China, and Japan. Tapestries are special because of the way they are woven. In a simple tabby weave, the weaver uses only one color at a time. In tapestries, two or more colors meet on the same row and interlock to create a design. Students created a plan called a cartoon. They then use several of the interlocking techniques learned to make their plan (cartoon) come to life."
Is there a standard way to say this in Spanish? Any suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks.

“Tabby weaving” is together with twill (tejido cruzado o sarga) the basic type of textile: There seems to be at least another main option to refer to this kind of weave (tabby weave/weaving or plain weave), which results in, no surprise, several possible renderings into Spanish. I think that “tejido plano” is a generally accepted translation, that can work in Latin America as well.
