Also in clinical practice the problem of classification probably
cannot be solved by choosing just one model or another: preferring classes (i.e. a pure categorical
approach aimed to produce a unifying system, as anticipated mainly by Kahlbaum
and Kraepelin), prototypes (i.e. typological classification, based on clinical impressions
about extreme/accumulations types), or dimensional models (based on Eysenk’s theories of
behavioural patterns and pharmacological evidence, oriented towards syndromes and not
nosological entities).
