English term

shares (in a ship)

English to Spanish Bus/Financial Ships, Sailing, Maritime
Buenas tardes:
estoy traduciendo un documento de registro de un barco y me aparece esta frase, pero no tengo más contexto ni he conseguido encontrar más información.

Details shown on the back of certificates are: Note stating: “For the purposes of registration there are 64 shares in a ship”; Name and address of owner(s); ...

¿¿Podría tratarse de participaciones?? Aunque es un poco extraño.

Saludos y gracias de antemano

Discussion

Laura Gómez (asker) Jul 24, 2022:
64 shares The property in a British ship is divided into 64 sixty-four shares1. Each share may be owned by a separate owner. Each share or number of shares may be owned jointly by up to five persons: joint owners are deemed to be one person and ‘shall not be entitled to dispose in severalty of any interest in a ship, or any share in a ship in respect of which they are registered’2.
Laura Gómez (asker) Jul 24, 2022:
Más contexto El término aparece también en un contrato de compraventa (Bill of Sale/Deed of transfer) / transferencia de la embarcación:

Further, * I/we, as transferor(s), hereby declare that * I/we have the power to transfer in the manner described above the above mentioned shares, and that they are free from encumbrances ** save as appears by the registry of the above vessel.
** delete and initial the deletion if there are NO outstanding mortgages

English term (edited): share/s (in a ship)
Selected

cuota/s de copropiedad (de una nave)

Note for UK notarial purposes and *Shipping Solicitor-Speak in order of size:

boat -> un barco
ship -> una nave
vessel or other craft -> una embarcación

PS *a City shipping law firm - that has since sunk - did not accept the translation of ship for an ocean-going vessel. Four decades later, I am still trying to figure that one out.
Example sentence:

PREFERENCIA DE LOS COPROPIETARIOS EN VENTA DE CUOTAS DE NAVE

A vessel is a general term used to refer to all water-bound watercraft, and as such, a cargo ship (ship transporting goods) may well be referred to as a vessel.

agree Daniel Delgado : "64: ... Number of shares in a ship or boat under British Registry owing to its divisibility by 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 32" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/64_(number), Importante: "de una"

Gracias, Daniel, and thanks. The share principle is basically the same for ownership of a 'thoroughbred' race horse.
agree Luis M. Sosa : Yes, specailly if we are not dealing with the stock market.

Gracias, Luis, and thanks. My mind goes back to an 'investment' in shares of 'thoroughbred' race horse.

Creo que la clave está en este párrafo, aportado por Laura.....
《For the purposes of registration there are 64 shares in a ship”; Name and address of owner(s); ...》
