Spanish term

buzo

Non-PRO Spanish to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
SPAIN. Another item from my seemingly never-ending list of garments (software strings). Someone entered a previous wikiwords definition as "sweater", but that doesn't seem to correspond to this description:

"BUZO tiene una segunda acepción, que es "prenda de vestir de una sola pieza" y una tercera "prenda de abrigo con capucha".
Proposed translations (English)

@Althea Pram suit - that's a new one for me. This is the most likely solution in my context - I don't think it's a sweater or sweatshirt. If you post it I'll probably end up giving you the points.
neilmac (asker) Dec 17, 2022:
Research Apparently in some Latin American countries, such as Colombia and Argentina, "buso/buzo" does refer to a sweater or sweatshirt. However, the links I've seen for Spain seem to refer to one-piece bodysuits or jumpsuits, at least when the term refers to babywear.

pram suit

Note from asker:
I think I've got most of the clothing stuff out of the way now. Next up is pram accessories and things like that - and again, I had no idea there were so many different thingymajigs...

Thanks Helena
agree Jennifer Levey : And for bigger babies (aka 'ados' and 'adults') buzo is a wetsuit as used by divers and surfers.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Later, in adult clothing, it comes up again, and in that case it's either a sweater/sweatshirt or hoodie. I never thought babywear could be so challenging! Thanks to everyone who chipped in on this one."

sweatshirt

Sweatshirts are still used for their original purpose as comfortable athletic wear, but they are also worn for staying warm in cooler temps, repping a collegiate team, or layering to form a fashionable outfit.
Why are they called sweatshirt?
Why is this article of clothing called a sweatshirt? The “sweat” originates on the football field, since these cotton jerseys were designed for athletes to sweat in. They were originally—and still are—used as comfortable athletic gear.
Example sentence:

"She was dressed casually in jeans and a sweatshirt."

"It feels cool enough for a sweatshirt today."
