Es geht um einen Facilitator Guide zum Thema "Presentation Skills"
In den Notizen zu einem Chart zum Thema "Preparation of 'Things' " wird aufgezählt, was der Facilitator unmittelbar vor dem Kurs prüfen sollte:

- A/V equipment
- Attendees"

Danach heißt es unvermittelt:

Das ist doch hier eine Aufforderung an denjenigen, der hier über die „Presentation Skills“ referiert. Der Referent soll dem Publikum erzählen, was vor der Präsentation alles überprüft werden sollte, und wenn er eigene Anekdoten hat, wäre hier eine gute Stelle diese einzustreuen. („Und achten Sie drauf, dass sie wissen, wie das Gerät funktioniert, damit es Ihnen nicht so ergeht wie mir einmal, als ich...“)

Wenn zum Beipiel irgendwelche Stecker nicht da sind, oder der Kameraman hat sich gerade die Schulter ausgerenkt und etwas wichtiges ist kaputt gegangen. Alles was den Ablauf stören könnte, muss bekannt sein.

Aus meiner Sicht soll der Referent Bsp. dafür geben, was alles bei einer Präsentation passieren kann- im negativen Sinne.

I think you almost had the best answer yourself - "erzählen" is the word I'd use here, as it means "recount, relate", while "berichten" means "report (back)".
I don't think you can read into it that you are expected to "tell" an empty room, however early you arrive; just that you would wait until one or two of the audience arrive, then "tell away"!
Equally, I think it has to be a "blooper" that you tell against yourself, and not just any old "Panne".
