Das ABO- und das Rhesussystem gehören zu den wichtigsten Blutgruppensystemen. Es gibt viele verschieden Blutgruppensysteme.

Beim Menschen gibt es eine Vielzahl verschiedener Blutgruppensysteme, davon sind 29 bei der ISBT (Internationale Gesellschaft für Bluttransfusion) anerkannt und beschrieben.[1] Die wichtigsten Blutgruppensysteme sind das AB0-System und das Rhesussystem, welche sich jeweils an einem bestimmten Antigen orientieren. Diese zwei sind wegen ihrer starken Agglutinationswirkung von besonderer Bedeutung.[2] Blutgruppen sind erblich und sind daher ein Merkmal, um Verwandtschaftsverhältnisse belegen zu können, z. B. durch das Abstammungsgutachten.

Das ABO-System
Entdeckung und Nachweis

Das ABO-Blutgruppensystem wurde 1901 von Landsteiner entdeckt.
Ausgangslage: Es herrschte Krieg und viele Leute benötigten Blutkonserven. Man merkte, dass viele Blutempfänger sofort starben, als man ihnen fremdes Blut gab. › Blutgruppenunverträglichkeit!

Das Rhesus-System
Entdeckung und Nachweis
Das Rhesus-System wurde 1940 von Landsteiner (welcher ebenfalls das ABO-System gefunden hat) und Wiener entdeckt.
Nachweis des Rhesus-Systems:
Man nimmt Blut des Rhesusaffen, welches ein Antigen enthält, das dem des Menschen sehr ähnlich ist. Man injiziert das Blut in ein Kaninchen, so dass dieses Antikörper gegen das Antigen entwickelt.
