ich glaube es hat mit Herrlichkeit oder Pracht zu tun hat und "monger" ist sowas wie "hog", d.h. jemand, der die ganze Herrlichkeit oder Pracht für sich möchte.

Ein "barmherziger" Samariter, der seine guten Taten mit lautem Paukenschlag begleitet, um auch wirklich sicher zu gehen, daß seine lieben Mitmenschen von seiner Gutheit in Kenntnis gesetzt werden und ihn dementsprechend lobpreisen und achten.

Es wäre gut, mehr über den Zusammenhang zu erfahren.

In dem Test unten z.B. würde ich die Sache andersrum angehen:
er ist Bescheiden, macht sich nichts aus Ruhm usw. Vielleicht hilft Dir das weiter. Aber ohne Kontext schwierig.
