Επειδή το ζήτησε η Νάντια: Αν θέλει να πει in the vanguard of (αν...), υπάρχουν και άλλα συνώνυμα:
στην πρωτοπορία
στην πρώτη γραμμή
στην εμπροσθοφυλακή
Να προσθέσω ότι τα outposts είναι και "ακριτικά φυλάκια", αλλά καλό είναι αυτά να περιορίζονται σε ελληνοκεντρικά κείμενα.
