(This is how a chemical engineer would express it. The point is that one h.e. is not "backing up" the other in case of contingency (as strongly implied by the word "backup") but that the normal mode of operation envisions them operating in alternation.)

: Though all you say is I'm sure true, I believe this amounts to over-interpretation of the source text: the FR term 'secours' does quite clearly indicate a back-up context. / How can you be so sure, in view of the clear-cut FR term?

My total and entire point is that "backup" and "redundancy" in English have totally wrong connotations of standby in case of accident, failure, malfunction, etc. I am pretty sure because I have seen hundreds of such cases.

This is a classic case where 'redundancy' could be used as an alternative in EN, being one of the common renderings of 'secours'

Yes, but we can't comofrtably express it like that in proper EN: something has an identical backup device, so it has 100% redundancy; meaning is the samej, but the expression is slightly more elegant and idiomatic in EN.
