French term

un restaurateur aux affaires

French to English Bus/Financial Food & Drink Restaurant chain
Context: in a booklet encouraging people to join a restaurant franchise. A description of the sort of person who would join the franchise: "***un restaurateur aux affaires***, proche de ses clients; un cadre confirmé qui aime manager ses équipes, un commerçant doublé d'un vrai chef d’entreprise". Does this mean "a restaurateur who specialises in catering for business people", or a "business-like restaurateur"? Thanks in advance for any help!

Discussion

Carol Gullidge Mar 14, 2015:
I think the answer lies in Un commerçant doublé d'un vrai chef d'entreprise
Tony M Mar 14, 2015:
@ Asker I doubt that your first suggestion would be applicable, principally for linguistic reasons, as made clear by ϕ²/

But presumably you might also be able to gauge this to some extent from the type of restaurant in question?

a restaurateur in charge / at the helm

"être aux affaires" = to run things,
Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Seems logical, linguistically... but a bit of a daft thing to say: "What we want is a restaurant manager who is going to run things" — duh! / yes, that makes sense!

Of course, but they're not looking for a "restaurateur" who is a "chef" in the culinary sense, they want someone who can manage a business and get the most out of his employees..
neutral Lucy O'Shea : I think they are playing on the fact that he is a real businessman - they go on to call him a "cadre" and a "commerçant".

As opposed to an owner who delegates the management to others.
