posterior margins of the (articular) facets

As far as I know - and I have studied anatomy - there are no "posterior articular facets" in the knee joint. It is not even sure that your text refers specifically to the patella here. A little more context would be helpful.

Or it means there are marginal osteophytes on the patellar facets, which of course are on the posterior surface of the patella, in which case "posterior" is redundant.

Thanks for the additional info. For "individualisation de petites formations ostéophytiques en marginal facettaire postérieur " I would say something like:
"small isolated marginal osteophytes on the patellar facets". I would leave out "posterior".

If I were you I wouldn't mention the rotula or ginocchio in your translation LOL

Oh dear my poor Mrmanu - nobody is saying the term "posterior articular facet" does not exist. Indeed it does, but there are NONE IN THE KNEE JOINT. Citing extremely bad machine translations on Italian websites is not helpful.
Note from asker:
There is not much more context. I hope this helps.

thanks Liz - in fact you don't need to be a doctor to figure this one out but you DO need to know some anatomy :-)
agree Michael Lotz : indeed yes, concurrence from the anatomic pathologists....
