È un espressione un po' metaforica e slang come dici.
Prima di commettere altre stecche (deriva dal campo musicale dove una stecca è una nota stonata) dove stecche --> bistecche

I commenti alla risposta mi hanno fatto pensare a quando ho sentito queste espressioni ed una volta il significato era "prendere una batosta", un rimprovero ufficiale in questo caso.
Ho interpretato il contesto come scherzoso ed informale, spero di non aver preso una cantonata.

: Personalmente non ho mai sentito l'espressione, né ho mai sentito che "bistecca" nel senso descritto derivi da "stecca", ma sono pronta a ricredermi se fornisci qualche riscontro attendibile./Reminiscenze? Forma slang metaforica?
