Italian term

(giocatori di) ruzzola

Italian to English Art/Literary Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino
" Castelplanio, con la sua Abbazia di S. Benedetto de’ Frondigliosi, il Palazzo comunale, la “sagra della crescia”, i giocatori di ruzzola;"

From an itinerary.

I get only the verb, "to tumble, fall" when I look it up in various online dictionaries.

Thanks,

Peter

ruzzola players

I am afraid there is no translation. It is a game where people roll round pieces of wood or a whole cheese.

In these areas the production of Tuscan Pecorino PDO has always been so entrenched and important from a social point of view that, to this day, people still play a game called ruzzola, which consists of rolling big mature Pecorino cheeses along the ground.

cheese-rollers

"Ruzzola" is the local version of the noble and ancient sport of cheese-rolling. Why not keep the Italian term, as Cynthia suggests, with the English in brackets?
