consumer survey on media usage
Or media consumer survey for short.
The survey covers more than just TV channels:
Kanalvalgundersøkelsen 2010 utføreres jevnlig av Norsk Gallup, og kartlegger hvordan brukerne opplever kanalenes ulike egenskaper. I år topper Aftenbladet begge listene. Blant alle mediene ligger Aftenbladet over NRK1 og TV2, som innehar sølv- og bronseplassen. I målingen over nettavisen slår Aftenbladet.no VG Nett og Bt.no, som ligger på de to neste plassene.

: Good point. Another variation - a study of media preferences.

Thank you eodd :)

: A very good point indeed. One that makes the Norwegian name for it quite undescriptive, really.

Thank you Erik :)

Per Bergvall
: Have to run with the majority here, but I would have liked viewer rather than consumer. Viewers may be consumers in other context, but in this sphere, they view. They consume nothing.

Thanks for that Per :) although I'm not quite sure that I share your views. After all one does not view hardback newspapers/magazines or the radio, which are also covered in Bridget's latest discussion entry. The term 'forbruker og media' is also found...

channel choice survey
I'm sure viewer preference survey would have worked too, as would channel ratiing poll or a good few others. If there is a single exactly right term out there, it escapes me right now.

Channel selection survey
It is a survey mapping viewers choices of TV channels and how the viewers experience the characteristics of the channels.
