Reservelege is an outdated term in the sense that it is no longer used in Norwegian hospitals. What it used to mean is the most senior of the junior doctors, ie. not a consultant, but that would be the next step.

Yes. I suppose all Norwegian hospital doctors are "resident" in the sense that they are employed by the hospital. There are strict regulations about running a practice "on the side".

: Agree, but the term is no longer in use and there is no exact U.S. equivalent. Assistentlege is the term used now in Norway. See here: http://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reservelege
