Michael also asked me to draw attention to the London Host Scheme:
"If you are a London-based delegate who would be interested in hosting and networking with a colleague based outside London or the UK, please register for the scheme by e-mailing organiser Michael Benis. To incentivise this networking opportunity, we will be offering a bottle of delicious organic red wine to one of our generous hosts, to be selected at random in the prize draw."

Thanks
Katharina

First time! Oct 27, 2008

This was my first-ever powwow, after many intentions to do so. I spent a very pleasant afternoon with fellow linguists and look forward to more. Thank you Katharina for the organisation!

Oh, and re the state pension: here's the website http://www.thepensionservice.gov.uk/pensions-reform/faqs.asp
(and I got it wrong with the 35 years - it's now only 30 years! So keep paying your quarterly contributions! Both men and women reaching State Pension age from 6 April 2010 will need 30 years qualifying years (rather than 39 for women and 44 for men as now) for a full basic State Pension. If you do not have the full 30 years of paid or credited contributions to get a full State Pension, each year you do have will give you one thirtieth of the full rate Basic State Pension.)

Do you have any questions about German or British state pensions? – German-British Consulting Event from 9 – 12 December 2008

As Europe grows together and the mobility of the workforce increases, national borders lose their significance. This development also has an influence on the different national social security systems. It is a policy of the German state pension system to advise their customers on all questions concerning state pension benefits. We offer a special service to customers who are or have been living and working in more than one European country.

The next regular German-British Consulting Event will be held in London, 34 Belgrave Square“German House”, SW1X 8QB, in co-operation with the International Pension Centre (IPC), which is part of the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The opening times are:
Tuesday, 9th and Wednesday, 10th December 2008 from 10 am to 2 pm and 3 pm to 6 pm.

Thursday, 11th December 2008 from 10 am to 1 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm

If you would like to know more about German and British pension benefits, your acquired pension rights, or if you require a pension forecast, then please visit us. The advice given is – of course – free of charge and if necessary in english. To avoid waiting times we advise you to make an appointment. Please call 020 7824-1347 (only available between 3rd and 28th November 2008 Monday to Thursday from 10 am to 12 amand from 2 pm to 4 pm and Friday from 10 amto 12 am and 2 pm to 3 pm).

German-British Consulting Event Oct 31, 2008

I can highly recommend this event. They sorted out all my stuff there and then and Berlin sent me an updated printout later on. The British guys are always tucked away in a corner, but are very sweet and helpful.
