français term
maison carrée / bâtisse carrée
français vers anglais
Art / Littérature
Architecture
This term describes the style of a manor house. 'Square house' or 'square building' doesn't seem quite right and I am wondering whether there is a better term in English.

: Main feature of some Roman homes was the atrium; other Roman homes were apartments. See http://www.historyforkids.org/learn/romans/architecture/hous... or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ancient_Roman_architecture#Hous... Not sure applicable here.

"Although not typically built with strong fortifications as castles were, many manor-houses were partly fortified."

The only other square houses I can think of are Georgian houses in the UK (clearly not all that much help).
