Both stated they were free of diseases that would be cause for separation

or:

. . . that would bar matrimony

. . . that would bar matrimonial union

. . . that would bar their union

. . . that would preclude marriage
Peer comment(s):

agree Adil Osman : separation in the sense of divorce. In Sharia law there is a number of conditions which justify filing for divorce.

The couple proved they are free from diseases that would otherwise prevent their marriage.

I understand the dilema faced in translating this phrase into English. Everything about it seems illogical.

The literal translation of this phrase would be:

"The husband and wife decided they are free of diseases which permit separation."

There are three points to discuss, first the couple is not married yet. Therefore, calling them الزوجينis a pre-assumption. Unless it doesn't mean "husband and wife." I would rather call them "couple" or "marriage applicant couple".

The other point is the verb قرر . This seems illogical because how can they make a medical decision concerning diseases without medical proof. Unless the word قرر does not mean "decided" but "proved".

The last illogical point is التفريق . They are not married yet. They are already separated.

In order to sound logical I would rather modify my suggestion to:

The couple proved they are free from diseases that would otherwise prevent their marriage.

disagree Marina Greis (X) : The couples have signed the marriage contract and expressed their desire to be united in marriage, the marriage officer has explained to them both the Islamic and legal impediments and they "acknowledge" أقروا أو أكدا and NOT decide (wrong translation)

Your disagreement is based on a wrong assumption. See my note above.
