Spanish term

médico de farmacias similares

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Mexican Social Security (
This phrase is in a medical report from Mexico, about a patient hospitalized for heart attack. The history says:

"SCACEST anteroseptal y lateral alto ... presentó dolor en region subescapular izquierda ... acude con *médico de farmacias similares* quien administra nitratos SL con lo que cede el dolor ... y es enviado a HGZ 6 (?) donde se TBL (TBL = trombolisis, btw).

Is this some Mexican medical provider that doesn't exist anywhere else? I understand the term "similares" to mean generic medications, and I could guess that "farmacias similares" could also be translated this way, but I don't understand this phrase! What sort of medico is this? How would you translate it? (And the document is going to the UK ... in case there is a more specialized or localized UK term for this.)

Many thanks.

doctor at "Farmacias Similares"

"Farmacias Similares" is a pretty large nationwide chain of pharmacies in Mexico. They offer "similar" products, not necessarily "generic", but very inexpensive medications.

you may want to add after "Farmacias Similares" (a Mexican pharmacy chain)

agree Peter Clews : Wow! There's nothing like local knowledge! Although a Google search for "farmacias similares" finds it straight away (hindsight is a wonderful thing!)

being "local" helps, particularly when you have "Farmacias Similares" ALL OVER the place ;)
