Another term that is tantalizingly close to coming to mind, but which remains out of reach...
Here is a sample sentence:
Ausser den pleistozänen Ostracoden der Kabul-Formation sind bisher noch keine Fossilien der kontinentale Beckenfüllung biostratigaphisch bearbeitet worden.
As always, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

basin fill
I think it would be perfectly legitimate to use basin fill here, see link, but I would also be tempted to use something like basin facies.

BASIN FILL
Unconsolidated material such as sand, gravel, and silt eroded from surrounding mountains and deposited in a valley.
GE:
Die Beckenfüllung umfasst kambrische bis karbonische Abfolgen, die während der Variszischen Orogenese in einzelne Überschiebungseinheiten zerstückelt und entlang von Überschiebungshorizonten verlagert wurden.
EN:
The basin fill comprises Cambrian to Carboniferous deposits that were deformed and displaced along thrust planes by thin-skinned tectonics within the Variscan fold-and-thrust belt.

e.g.:
Basin fill in the Oobagooma Sub-basin consists of approximately 5.5 km of Palaeozoic section and 4.5 km of Mesozoic and Cainozoic section (Smith et al, 1999). Little is known about the nature of Palaeozoic sedimentation offshore, as few wells have penetrated this succession.

Sedimentary basins are formed in a variety of geologic settings. Basins formed in a particular tectonic context (compressive, extensional or strike-slip) share certain characteristics. Knowing the regional tectonics, we can make useful predictions about the sedimentary fill of a basin. Conversely, for ancient basins, if we understand the basin fill, we can make useful statements about the ancient tectonic setting.

The Upper Proterozoic rocks of the Qala Series are interpreted as
being deposited in a slowly subsiding marine basin. The initial
basin fill was a variable sequence of sandstones and minor
volcaniclastic sediments.
