breeding stock
Essentially a guess! Having had dealings many years ago with Buxted and Eastwoods, I do know that that poultry producers keep flocks of birds purely for breeding purposes.

: I haven't heard this term either, but I agree, in the broiler and turkey industries, a male line and a female line are maintained and the chicks from crossing the 2 lines are what are raised for market.

: Brooders are warming cages for chicks, but a breeding pen would be for adult birds to produce eggs for hatching, thus the two are not the same.
