German term

antiobstruktive Heimtherapie

German to English Medical Medical (general) COPD
Befund. Patient with COPD.

"Unter Fortsetzung der antiobstruktiven Heimtherapie, sowie parenteraler Lasixgaben kann innerhalb weniger Tage eine Stabilisierung der respiratorischen Situation erzielt werden."

Ok, my problem here is that 'anti-obstructive therapy' seems not to be used in EN. All references are from foreign authors.

"Self-management of COPD" is an alternative that comes to mind, but it seems too vague to me. Any great suggestions out there?

Discussion

Lirka (asker) Aug 16, 2010:
@SJLD My thoughts exactly :):)
Btw, the patient's medication does include Pulmicort pMDI [=metered dose inhaler], so perhaps I should indeed use your suggestion.
SJLD Aug 16, 2010:
Probably best to wait for confirmation of meaning from one of the DE medicos.
SJLD Aug 16, 2010:
it doesn't sound English but it will be understood I guess
Lirka (asker) Aug 16, 2010:
@ SJLDIt certainly involves the use of a nebulizer but it could possibly be more than just that. Thus, the problem... Should I just leave 'anti-obstructive'? Does it sound very strange to you?
SJLD Aug 16, 2010:
obstruction in COPD is due to bronchospasm and accumulation of secretions. I wonder if this isn't referring to home use of a nebuliser?

home nebuliser/nebulizer therapy

I'm pretty sure it must mean this. I don't think particular mention would be made of the treatment if it were just a puffer.

Have a look here under "antiobstruktive Therapie" for cystic fibrosis. It seems it specifically refers to bronchodilators. I have found othre evidence for this.

though I have no problem with "antiobstructive", as this can hardly be misinterpreted
Note from asker:
Thanks, Jonathan, but anti-congestive does not equal anti-obstructive in medicine. I am considering just leaving 'anti-obstructive' though. For the lack of a better expression...

German term (edited): antiobstruktive Heimtherapie

home/domiciliary therapy for COPD

...would be my tip. The '...for COPD' takes care of the '(anti-)obstruktive...'

If you google for "home therapy * COPD", you'll see that the home therapy could be oxygen therapy or nebulizer therapy or physical therapy. Ergo, I suggest you use just 'home therapy' or 'domiciliary therapy', which would take care all the 3 therapies.
Note from asker:
Thanks, Jennifer. I am afraid it is too vague, though
