German term
Vorauflage
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Printing & Publishing
Digitalisierung von Vorauflagen
An item in a list of services offered by a publishing services company. Other services include typesetting, image processing, copy editing etc.
My guesses would be something like "preliminary print runs" or "prototype editions", but I'm really not sure. Does anyone know what the term would be in English?

I wondered about "Digitalisierung", which is the process of converting something from analogue to digital (more or less). So why should you digitise new (limited) editions or print runs etc. This would be "Digitale Produktion von Vorauflagen" or similar. Today, they will be produced in digital form right from the start. Perhaps, here, they mean digitisation of previous editions, available in printed form or on microfilm. In German, Vorauflage can also have the meaning of "previous edition/issue".
perhaps "digitis(z)ation of previous issues"

: I also saw this, Lisa, but they may do this simultaneously, i.e. publish a printed and a digital version...

Comment: "I think you may have hit the nail on the head here, Lisa. Thanks for that. It seems to make the most sense in the context, but I think I will query it with the customer just to make sure."

Ich kenne diesen Begriff aus der Druckbranche, manchmal lässt ein Autor eben nur 500 Bücher drucken, und wenn sich sein Buch gut verkauft, mehr...
I was also wondering if you can't say "first edition" because that's what it is...
