There is some support for this association in the literature. Carmil and Breznitz (1991) reported that Holocaust survivors and their children expressed greater belief in God and more hope than those who did not directly experience the Holocaust. Decker (1993) suggested that spirituality may improve after a trauma, especially if core beliefs are internally based.
