Não entendi muito bem este termo.
A princípio achei que estivesse relacionado com Freddie Fender, mas me parece que não.

A impressão que me passa é que o autor do texto está fazendo uma piadinha com a oficina (de luthiers) da própria Fender, responsável pelo conserto das guitarras, e comparando os estragos de uma batida de carros no violão e no próprio carro. Como se a oficina pudesse salvar o carro mas não o violão.
