Well, the German means "out in the field" with the added emphasis of being in the outdoors as opposed to inside a field office or some other facility

Flur, as I see it are meadowlands that are not used for plant cultivation. However, the work described is certainly fieldwork, so I would omit Flur and solve it as suggested
