German term

mit dazu beigetragen

German to English Social Sciences Government / Politics NGO
"Diese Verpflichtungen haben mit dazu beigetragen Solidarität in der Gemeinschaft untereinander zu stärken."

What is "mit dazu beigetragen" doing here? Is it saying that these commitments (because that's what they are in this context) must strengthen one another? It's talking about how the commitments made in the constitution of an NGO have led to increased awareness of human rights and better group cohesion (the solidarity aspect).

Any help is much appreciated; this is the last sentence of a very long document and I'm totally confused by it.

"mit dazu" = "unter anderem", also sind nicht die einzigen Faktoren im Spiel....

thanks Kim
agree Mack Tillman : I'd go for "contributed to". Played a role would also be fine with me.

IMO, it’s best only to select wordier terms if they add meaning or at least sound better in English.

In simply English one could also just say "contributed to" however the other suggestions are also fine.

have contributed to

More context is required in order to take the MIT into account. One commentator pointed this out: the Verpflichtungen are contributing factors among others. But to translate this properly you'd need to know what these factors are.

So in my view HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO without conveying the sense of the MIT is an incompete translation.
