German term
Abschöpfung
German to English
Bus/Financial
Retail
Maybe emptying???
Any help much appreciated...TIA Stephen

Skim off the till
The till is skimmed off when a certain amount has been reached in the register, orat specific time intervals (permitting that it is necessary). This is done in order to aviod having too much cash in the store, but still enough on hand to conduct business. I find skim the till here a bit misleading, because it is also a slang expression for stealing money from your employer!

I find skim better than empty, because the register is not technically "emptied".

: Ouch, there is a difference between "skimming off the till" and "skimming the till". One is a felony, the other one is a duty.

: In a way, yes. However, a certain amount of cash must remain in the till at all times to be able to give change. The average amount is about 300 with specific numbers of tens, twenties, coins, etc. Don't know why Stephen doesn't like the term "skim" :-)
