English to Tagalog: Why Argue?
Source text - English To human beings, forming opinions is as natural and necessary as breathing. Birds never have to decide what kind of nest to build, but humans decide how to build everything from a house to a society on the basis of thought and opinion. A diversity of mental and physical structures has always defined human activity.
We are not born with opinions but form them through our own mental and emotional lives and our interactions with the lives of others. At first we may receive most of our opinions unquestioningly, but very soon we begin to question even the views of our parents. The sounds of "Why?" and "Because!" echo throughout every childhood. However unsatisfactory that primitive dialogue may be (for both parties), those words prevent the basic structure of inquiry, and they begin to suggest some of the ways we form opinions. We want to know why - we want some reasons to follow the because - so that we can decide for ourselves whether we agree or disagree.
But our opinions are not just personal decisions. However confident we might have been of our views, and however inevitably convincing they might have seemed to us, "I wish I had thought to say ...!" is a common refrain when we find ourselves alone again after a dispute with other people. And merely announcing our views on a topic is seldom enough to convince anyone that we are right to think as we do. Dialogue rather than assertion is the basis of the process. If we want others to take our views seriously,let alone be persuaded by them we have to argue our positions effectively and responsibly and find answers to reasonable objections.

Translation - Tagalog Sa tao, ang pagbuo ng opinyon ay kasing natural at kailangan kagaya ng paghinga. Ang mga ibon kailanman ay hindi kailangang magpasya kung anong klaseng pugad ang bubuuin, ngunit ang tao ay nagpapasya kung paano bubuuin ang lahat mula sa bahay hanggang sa lipunan batay sa kaisipan at opinyon. May iba-ibang istrukturang pangkaisipan at pisikal na palagiang naghubog ng gawain ng tao.
Hindi tayo ipinanganak na may opinyon, bagkus nabuo natin ito sa pamamagitan ng ating buhay na pangkaisipan at emosyonal at sa ating pakikipag-ugnayan sa buhay ng iba. Sa una ay maaaring tanggapin natin ang mga opinyon ng walang pag-alinlangan, ngunit sa kalaunan ay nagsisimula na tayong magduda kahit sa mga kaisipan ng ating mga magulang. Ang tunog ng "Bakit?" at "Dahil!" ay umaalingawngaw sa bawat kabataan. Kahit na hindi kanais-nais ang makalumang pag-uusap na iyan (para sa dalawang panig), ang mga salitang iyon ay nakakasagabal sa anumang paraan ng pagtatanong, at sila ay nagpapahiwatig ng mga paraan kung paano bumuo ng opinyon. Nais nating malaman kung bakit - nais natin ng mga dahilan para masundan ang "dahil" - upang makapagpasya tayo sa ating mga sarili kung sasang-ayon o hindi.
Subalit ang ating mga opinyon ay hindi lamang personal na pagpapasya. Gaano man tayo nakakatiyak sa ating mga kaisipan, at gaano man sila kapani-paniwala sa atin, "Sana naisip kong sabihin ...!" ay karaniwan nating nasasambit kung natatagpuan natin ang ating mga sarili na muling nag-iisa matapos ang pakikipag-alitan sa iba. At kalimitan ay hindi sapat ang pagpapahayag lamang ng ating kaisipan tungkol sa isang paksa para makumbinsi sinuman na tama tayo sa iniisip natin. Ang pag uusap sa halip na pagbabadya ang batayan ng proseso. Kung nais nating mataimtim na tanggapin ng iba ang ating mga kaisipan, kundi man makumbinsi sila ng tuluyan, kailangan nating ipaglaban ang ating paniniwala ng mahusay at matapat at sagutin ang mga makatwirang pagtutol.
