May change time Sep 5, 2008

We don't have a fixed mealtime anyway, so changing mealtimes to fit round a deadline is not a big deal. If the job requires it, my patner will cook and I'll leave my work for long enough to eat, before getting back to the grindstone. But I usually manage to plan my work to avoid such extremes.

Meals are the fuel you need to think properly :) Sep 5, 2008

I cannot skip lunch nor breakfast, I need to eat in order to think no matter what.
I don’t care much about the other meals of the day, as long as I have mate to drink

Not fixed at all Sep 5, 2008

I have different work schedules. I usually have breakfast in my office alone; some days I have to teach until 2:00 p.m.; others at night. So, I rarely share meals with my relatives.

Interesting Sep 5, 2008

I was only thinking about dinner, as that's the only meal I share with my partner anyway. As for breakfast and lunch, I only skip then when I'm not hungry and I have them when I reach a suitable break in my work.

We have two little children, so we cannot skip meals, or they'll assault the fridge! We don't have rigidly fixed mealtimes, but we tend to have breakfast and dinner around more or less predictable times. Lunch is less formal: a sandwich or a yogurt or some fruit will do us.

I assume that those who voted "stop completely" live on their own, or at least don't have children.

A caterer. Sep 5, 2008

1. I don't have a family, only acquaintances.
2. A caterer, who offers varies menus comes every day (7/7, 365 days a week). Price: £ 4.72/5.8 euros/8.3$) or £7/€8.5 if you require a special meal or a fish dish or meat dish from which you can eat two days.

Given the price of gasoline, it is cheaper than using gasoline to drive to a supermarket, it saves time, saves gas for the furnace, saves water to boil vegetables,.....

The delivery driver comes every day at a certain hour. Sometimes she offers double meals for the same price. My mealtimes brake takes 10 minutes. Twice a week, I do the dishes.

Unlike some translation suppliers and translators, the monthly invoice of the caterer mentions: "Immediate payment". In practice, it boils down to payment after 3-5 days = the time to transfer money from one bank-account to the other.
Otherwise, you get a phone call and he stops delivery until you pay your bill.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if the same were true in translation? After all we are caterers of words.
The caterer does not loose customers by requiring "immediate payment".
On the contrary, he has 20 vans catering 14000 meals on a daily basis and employs 25 people.

It would be nice if the same payment principles were applied in translations. The caterer, who started in his garage, would never have grown if he allowed payment practices like those in the translation sector, i.e. after 60 days.

Feeding the dog Sep 5, 2008

My mealtimes are always chaotic, but I'm living alone with my daughter's dog, so who cares.
I do take care, though, that the dog gets its meals and walks more or less at the same time every day.

Other - living alone Sep 5, 2008

I live alone, but I keep fairly regular eating times and very rarely snack in between. I'm never hungry in the morning when I get up, so I eat a couple of hours later, then have lunch (which is my main, cooked meal), then supper around 7 p.m., which sometimes is just a light snack or sandwich.

I enjoy cooking, so that gives me a nice break from work. Also, I order all my groceries online, which saves lots of time.

Even if I'm working on an urgent project, I keep my mealtimes. Sometimes this means eating while working, but I'm a good multitasker and very careful about not slobbering food and drink on my laptop.

First, there was Chaos... Sep 5, 2008

...then came Translation of broad breast.

This is just the situation I'm experiencing at the moment. My wife is waiting for me downstairs for dinner and I'm struggling to finish an urgent, a very urgent project. Besides, I am fat and I want to eat all the time! Solve this riddle??? No way.

daily mealtimes with my family stop... Sep 5, 2008

...except for my dog.

I live alone, so usual visits to my family for lunch or dinner are completely banned until the translation is finished, and I eat whenerver I remember I have to or when my body asks for some food. But the lucky one is my dog that always eats at the same time (but he doesn't need any company to eat, anyway, and he deosn't complain if you don't talk to him while he's eating, jaja!)

I have two little children as well, and skipping or even change time of meals is not an issue, because they won't stop asking for sweets, cookies or just repeating 'I am hungry' until they have their meal.
And for me as well, I cannot work or concentrate properly on an empty stomach.
