Usually because I google a term to get more background information and then come across something so interesting, and then there is a link .............
And then half an hour has flown by

People wanting my time Jun 1, 2009

It's always going to be just a minute of my time, or it's an exceptional case or...

And half of them could have been dealt with by other colleagues, and indeed need to be dealt with by other colleagues, but I'm up against the Spanish mentality that people have to talk to the boss in order to get things done, even if that is more time consuming for all concerned.

Emails! Jun 1, 2009

Mails, usually around twenty, but more like fifty on a busy day excluding spam, mostly little but urgent add-ons to current projects (thus no read-only mails).
More often than not my customers keep me busy until their offices close. I'm not at all used to working in peace during daytime. Must admit I thought this were sort of normal.

spam emails Jun 1, 2009

I voted "phone calls/emails", but phone calls don't distract me so much, unless I'm in an extreme rush to deliver the job, which happens very rarely. My real 'enemy' though is SPAM, as I pay attention to every email I receive, and when it appears to be a spam, I get frustrated.

family Jun 1, 2009

My children call me, my mother in law (my personal baby-sitter) does not understand that I work so she thinks she can call me any time she needs something useless, my girlfriend, who yells at her mum telling her not to disturb me, usually asks me questions every 5 mins.

A nightmare

Listening to PRI Jun 1, 2009

I love to keep up with current events. I don´t have satellite (yet!), so I usually listen to the radio online. Sometimes I become engrossed in the programs and can stray off task. Luckily, there is always an easy remedy for that.

myself Jun 1, 2009

I have a hard time sitting down and concentrating sometimes as other things are going on in the mind. Once I actually sit down and start I am fine despite I do get up and stretch very often (bad back!). Also, I like my work and immediate area to be clean and organized so I cannot start until it is tidy and all put away in its proper place!

Internet and the search for equivalence Jun 1, 2009

Doesn't it ever happen to you that you've "almost" got it word-pat, but can't be satisfied?

And before you know it, you've accumulated a mini-thesis on one measly term others would simply bash into the sentence with a sledgehammer (you know it, but have to find out).

It's always there, and when I get to a difficult place, I can't always summon the discipline to keep working. I look for relief and yes, ditraction, on line...and get way more than I ever wanted!

Social Networking websites Jun 1, 2009

Since I am involved in a lot of translations of all sorts of social networking and sharing websites (which most of the time are connected somehow) I often need to check how something is translated on a particular site to make sure I use the correct translation for mine.
My inboxes are usually full of invitations to snowball fights, drinking games, quizzes, and whatnot - five minutes later I look at the clock ... and an hour has passed...
