Spanish to English: Durability behavior of lightweight concrete made simultaneously with waste aggregates and expanded clay General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Construction / Civil Engineering
Translation - English The following materials were used for the manufacture of the different structural mortar mixtures undergoing durability tests:
As a binder, Portland cement CEM I-42.5, according to the European standard EN-197-1, with a Clinker content of 95% and a specific Blaine surface of 3400 cm 2/ g. was used.
Different types of aggregates were selected for the mortar mixtures: natural aggregates, lightweight expanded clay aggregates, recycled concrete, and mixed aggregates, in accordance with the following considerations:
- The natural aggregate is sedimentary sand with a particle size of less than 4mm, 95% composed of silica and free from clays and fine components.
- The lightweight aggregate is expanded clay supplied by the company Argex de Bustos (Oliveira do Bairro-Portugal), the granulometric types selected 2-4 (75% of particles with diameter between 4mm and 8mm) and 3-8 (75% of particles with diameter between 8mm and 12.5mm).
- The recycled concrete aggregate comes from the prefab concrete company ARTEPREF (Burgos-Spain), which is obtained from the breaking up of unusable precast concrete, subjected to prior crushing to achieve sizes between 0 and 150 mm, with subsequent treatment by impact crusher to obtain an aggregate size of 0 to 30 mm. Subsequently, the crushed material is screened selecting that which measures 4 mm or smaller.
