2. Goldpan can export selected terms from a TBX file... but it can only export to TBX. And the latest version of Goldpan is not free, so you can only use Goldpan if you happen to have an old installer already.
Actually you can simply open the tbx file in Goldpan, then select columns, copy and paste them into a blank Excel file. This is exactly how I created the xlsx file available above in my comment on 29 Apr.

Thanks, Boris. I confirm that this utility works for Windows.
Weirdly, I couldn't make it... When I run the utility, it says 'Converting...' first, then it says 'Converted...' but it creates a 0-KB empty out.txt.

out.txt has 4 columns; I switched 4th column with translation to 2nd column with AlignEdit (a part of LFA).

Thanks, it is very fast.

The TXT file in OmegaT subfolder /glossary: only the contents of the first three columns are displayed.

If you want to add OmegaT to your portfolio of CATs on Mac, you can use TBX files without converting

standalone application to create bilingual dictionaries out of a tbx Jun 8, 2023

Thank you Milan, but I just want to be able to use a bilingual file to search for terms. It was so convenient using the Microsoft site.
Or does OmegaT contain a Termbase or something like this? Like a bilingual dictionary?
What would be the easiest way to open that tax file and convert it in something usable, like a standalone application. I don't need to integrate the TB in any CAT-Tool.

Thank you

Diana

OmegaT does not use termbase. It uses a glossary, which is a text file that has three fields per line separated by tabs. See:

https://www.proz.com/forum/cat_tools_technical_help/362036-how_do_i_use_a_tbx_file-page2.html#2997283

The TXT file in OmegaT subfolder /glossary: only the contents of the first three columns are displayed.

Mac: I don't use a Mac so I can't tell you how to work with programs written for MS Windows.
Online conversion: try doing a TBX conversion in Goldpan or another online tool.

Links not available Apr 4

Hey Samuel,

Thank you for posting those links!

Unfortunately, the ones for the UI aren't available anymore, do you happen to have any files that used to be there? I'd really appreciate it!

What software can open such a file?

Some CAT tools can open TBX files, but it's more likely that you would want to *convert* the TBX file to something else, like a tab-delimited text file, a CSV file, or an Excel file. Now you know what to Google for (-:

It was Samuel Murray who shared the links.
Do you need specifically what Samuel shared (tools I guess) or the termbase itself?

I don't know whether Excel works on Mac, but you can simply open a tbx file with Excel. You don't need to convert anything. When prompted, click Yes, XML-table, OK. That's it.

Then you can remove all columns except column I and remove duplicates (I don't know why they appear there). This is how you would have a searchable bilingual file.
